MESSAGE ON FASTING

from Pastor Kevin james

types of fasts

  1. The Absolute Fast-The absolute fast means absolutely no consumption whatsoever. It means to abstain from both food and drink. Normally absolute fasting will not exceed three days and nights because there is a risk to damaging one's health to withhold both food and drink for more than three days.
  2. The Partial Fast-At times the Bible records believers who fasted from certain types of food, but not all foods. This is called a partial fast. We see Daniel using this type of fast at least twice.
  3. The Normal Fast-Jesus seemed to engage in a normal fast. A normal fast is defined as abstaining from all food-solid or liquid-but not from water. In Luke 4:2, it speaks of how Jesus ate nothing while He fasted. But Luke does not say that Jesus drank nothing.

FASTING TESTIMONY SHARED BY ALEX SMITH

IG: @different_is_difference

My family and I joined NCBF on the journey of fasting for 21 days. We sat down as a family and individually called out what we should separate ourselves from in order to better our relationship and communication with God. Technology and food were identified by my wife and children as their focuses, but I struggled.

It finally dawned on me that I listen to hip hop music quite often. Although some tunes are edited, I can fill in the blanks with ease. I usually listen to loud, glaring music while working out, driving, cooking, doing yard work, etc but decided to fast from music. I thought my flight and car commutes would be less energetic, workouts less motivational and cooking would have no swag.

This fast has brought me closer to God, which ultimately led me closer to myself. It has helped me to see a different part of myself that I knew existed, but was nervous to tap into. My workouts are still sweaty, I still bob my head while on flights, all while my seat mate wonders what I'm on. I still shovel snow, blow leaves and cut grass (all in one week) while doing the 2-step as my neighbors walk by admiring my swag! Only this time lifting my hands, giving praise, thanks and admiration for everything He has done. I lift my hands higher for the things He hasn't done because I know what's for me is mine; as long as I obey.
